Hello, my name is Sam! I’m a career switcher, taking over a decade of customer service and client consultation experience into the tech industry as a full stack developer.
I discovered my passion for software back in 2023, when I began learning Python and ended up writing a script to automate stock pricing at Elite Vision. Seeing that script create a measurable, optimised workflow was the catalyst that defined my continuing journey as a software engineer.
Since then I have coded voraciously before and after work, exploring a handful of different technologies and culminating in the completion of Northcoders’ Enterprise Engineering course.

AndroidA console app that converts Korean characters into their English phonetic equivalents, making it easier to sound out Korean text without knowing the alphabet. Started while learning the Korean alphabet myself, and its logical structure made it a great candidate for a side project.
Highlight: an opportunity to dig into C# syntax and Unicode, since Korean characters are built from compound components that decompose into individual sounds.
A custom system built for a real after-school club in Bethnal Green, handling bookings, invoicing, daily registers (with allergy alerts), staff rotas, and secure messaging between staff and parents. Built as three connected apps, one each for parents, staff, and admins, with different access levels for each.
Highlight: Three role-gated apps (parent/staff/admin) sharing one component library, with per-role data access enforced at the database level using Supabase Row-Level Security.
A native Android app that brings the fighting game community together, letting players find and practise combos from across different games and platforms in one place instead of hunting through scattered websites.
A focus-timer web app born from wanting to track working hours while listening to chill lo-fi music in the background. It plays music pulled in via the YouTube API and keeps a running timer of time worked. Built as a group project using Agile frameworks and paired programming, as the culmination of 3 months learning .NET and Blazor.
Highlight: Built the JWT cookie authentication system for this group project. Tracked down a stubborn bug where the cookie wasn't passing through the JavaScript interop layer, and traced it to an uppercase/lowercase mismatch in a JWT claims key.
A personal daily job-search assistant. It reads my CV, pulls in live job listings from several job boards, scores each one against my CV so I can see the best matches first, and tracks which jobs I've saved, applied to, or dismissed, all in a dashboard that updates automatically every day.
Highlight: Scoring engine weights CV keywords against listings rather than doing simple exact-match filtering, so results are ranked by relevance, not just keyword presence.
A Windows desktop app that records a call or meeting, mixing your microphone with whatever sound is playing on your computer, into a single audio file, then transcribes it to text automatically. Built out of needing a reliable backup of meeting transcriptions for when the official recording software fails. Everything runs offline on your own machine, with no cloud services involved.
Highlight: Mixes two live audio streams (system + mic) in real time before transcription, and does the whole pipeline offline with no cloud API calls.

I play Marvel Rivals ranked and spend a fair bit of time learning map layouts and character match-ups. Peak placement so far is Diamond, and I'm aiming for Grandmaster. I enjoy playing tank, and my two mains are Captain America and Deadpool.
Captain America
DeadpoolDeadlock is a game I've started playing recently, but it's really got its hooks in me. It has an incredible art style and all of the heroes are very unique. My two mains so far are Apollo and Mina, but I'm slowly learning all the different heroes they have available.
Apollo
MinaMostly PS2 and Nintendo DS titles. I enjoy the nostalgia, and how these older games make you take a step back and slow down. The current highlight of the collection is Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor.

Got into fitness through CrossFit, drawn to the community of pushing through tough workouts together, and now mostly train with barbell and dumbbell exercises.
